Background
Before starting my PhD at KU Leuven, I worked at the Technical University of Munich as a research associate and at Web-IQ as a machine learning engineer. Earlier, I worked as a software developer, and studied at the University of Groningen, where I completed an MSc in Information Science (cum laude), a BSc in Information Science, and a BA in Communication and Information Sciences.
My MSc thesis work was later published at COLING 2022.
Teaching & Supervision
For the past three academic years, I’ve been a TA for the MSc course Natural Language Processing (B-KUL-H02B1A) and the BSc course Data Structures and Algorithms (B-KUL-G0P81A). At TUM I co-organized an elective course for MSc students called Natural Language Processing: Methods and Application. At the University of Groningen, I was a TA for Introduction to Programming I and designed course material for the course Philosophy of Communication.
I’m fortunate to regularly mentor or supervise students with projects and theses. Some theses have led to publications (1, 2), and some students went on to pursue a PhD themselves.
Volunteering & Service
Reviewer since 2024 for ACL Rolling Review, co-organizer of the CLIN35 conference, guest editor for the CLIN Journal, Program Chair for the 2nd UniDive Training School, sub-group leader in the UniDive COST Action.
Since 2023, I have sporadically helped write lab-automation software for the Walter Schottky Institute, such as a PyMeasure-based setup for controlling measurement instruments.
